Child safety standards
Version 1.0 · last updated 4 October 2026
Our standard
twirlr has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Any such content is removed, the account is closed, and it is reported to the Internet Watch Foundation and, where the law requires, the National Crime Agency and the police.
How twirlr is built for children
- Under 16s need a parent or guardian to approve their account, and every post goes to that grown-up first.
- There are no messages between members. Children can only message their troupe leader, their association or its safeguarding officer.
- Profiles of 13 to 15 year olds stay inside their association unless a parent approves.
- Under 13s: never visible outside their own association.
- Comments with contact details, links, handles or words linked to moving a conversation elsewhere are held automatically.
- No location of any kind is used for under 18s, and no location trail is kept for anyone.
- Each association names a safeguarding officer, who is alerted to urgent reports.
